Watch Out for the Judge!
Have you been noticing the activity of your inner Judge lately? Any critique of yourself, other people, and/or your situation? The skill of this universal saboteur is that it’ll masquerade as discernment, rational thinking, or even self-protection/care, and yet if the energy leaves you feeling defensive, disconnected, and generally worn out, it’s the Judge.
For me, the Judge shows up in compulsive thinking – turning a situation over and over in my head to figure out where I went wrong. This usually puts me right on top of the shame spiral, and if I’m not careful, I can get sucked into that vortex and have an even harder time coming up for air.
Know that we all carry the Judge with us and it’ll really never go away. With a solid mental fitness practice, we learn to recognize how the Judge sabotages us from achieving our own highest good and greatest joy.
Today, be on the lookout for the Judge. It may show up for you in big or small ways – the first step in the practice is to see/hear/feel it.
Then do your favorite PQ reps. Isolate one sense and stay with it for 2 minutes. Your mind will drift, even with a regular practice! Gently bring your attention back to the present moment, back to your rep.
Sometimes this is enough to quiet the Judge and let your own Sage wisdom come forth. Sometimes you might wish to reinforce your response by actively seeking the gift or opportunity in whatever is presenting itself to you.
Let me know how it’s going. We can all use some good tips to sustain our mental fitness – particularly when it comes to the Judge!
PS Because many of you have indicated that the weekends have been the hardest to sustain your practice, I’m offering a Free session this Friday from 4-5pm/MST on Stress and Mental Fitness. It’s a quickie but might help you reconnect with your practice and remember the lies your saboteurs tell you – particularly about busy-ness – so that you can catch them in these lies and bring your PQ brain back online. Email if interested.
